REVIEW IGF2 mRNA-binding protein 2: biological function and putative role in type 2 diabetes

چکیده
Recent genome-wide association (GWA) studies of type 2 diabetes (T2D) have implicated IGF2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IMP2/IGF2BP2) as one of the several factors in the etiology of late onset diabetes. IMP2 belongs to a family of oncofetal mRNA-binding proteins implicated in RNA localization, stability, and translation that are essential for normal embryonic growth and development. This review provides a background to the IMP protein family with an emphasis on human IMP2, followed by a closer look at the GWA studies to evaluate the significance, if any, of the proposed correlation between

P-30: The Effect of The T26248G Polymorphism on Putative MethyltransferaseNsun7 Protein Function and Its Role in Male Infertility
Background: Male infertility has many causes, including genetic infertility. The NOP2/Sun domain family, member7 (Nsun7) gene, which encodes putative methyltransferase Nsun7, has a role in sperm motility. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of the T26248G polymorphism on Nsun7 protein function and its role in male infertility. Materials and Methods: Semen samples were col...
متن کاملIGFBP2 is a biomarker for predicting longitudinal deterioration in renal function in type 2 diabetes
OBJECTIVE Insulin-like growth factors are implicated in the development of diabetic nephropathy. IGF-binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) and IGF2 are expressed in the kidney, but their associations with diabetic nephropathy are unclear. We therefore tested the hypothesis that circulating levels of IGF2 and IGFBP2 predict longitudinal renal function in individuals with type 2 diabetes. DESIGN AND METHO...
متن کاملmTOR phosphorylates IMP2 to promote IGF2 mRNA translation by internal ribosomal entry.
Variants in the IMP2 (insulin-like growth factor 2 [IGF2] mRNA-binding protein 2) gene are implicated in susceptibility to type 2 diabetes. We describe the ability of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) to regulate the cap-independent translation of IGF2 mRNA through phosphorylation of IMP2, an oncofetal RNA-binding protein. IMP2 is doubly phosphorylated in a rapamycin-inhibitable, amino acid-...

متن کاملIdentification of Igf2, Igfbp2 and Enpp2 as estrogen-responsive genes in rat hippocampus.
Estrogen has an important effect on higher brain function such as memory, learning, and emotion in which the hippocampus plays a critical role. The hippocampus expresses estrogen receptors, ER alpha and ERbeta, which are ligand-dependent transcription factors; however, the precise mechanism of estrogen action is not fully understood. We explored genes which are up-regulated by estrogen in the h...
